Emeralds

At VOC Gems, we work with natural emeralds — currently, first and foremost, stones from Swat in Pakistan and Panjshir in Afghanistan, two origins that have attracted growing interest among collectors and colored gemstone connoisseurs in recent years. Stones from other deposits, including Colombia, we source on request.

Every emerald is personally examined and selected by us. While laboratory reports provide essential gemological information, they tell only part of the story. We assess each stone for its color, transparency, clarity characteristics and inclusions, quality of cut, and overall visual appearance under different lighting conditions. Two emeralds of the same carat weight and geographic origin can differ considerably in beauty and character, which is why we make our final selection only after examining the stone in person.

Particular attention is given to geographic origin and treatment. For important stones, we obtain reports from independent gemological laboratories documenting their key characteristics, any indications of clarity enhancement and, where determinable, geographic origin.

We source our emeralds directly from trusted dealers and suppliers with whom we have established relationships across different countries. We also discover exceptional stones during sourcing trips to mining regions and at major international gem and jewelry shows.

The VOC Gems collection includes individual emeralds as well as matched pairs and sets selected for future jewelry.
